Hello every one!
My name is Renee, and I'm from just north of Toronto Ontario. This is the diary of my progress in getting into a career as an Assistant Director on film crews in Toronto.
This is a whole new realm for me. I come from a background of sales, management and marketing, which definitely give you good people skills - so I'm giving this a shot. Luckily I have a good friend named Kathi that does lighting and other jobs on the set, and she's been helping me through the start-up process.
Yesterday I went in to the offices of the Directors Guild in Toronto. They were surprisingly nice people, who filled me in on what I need to do. It seemed overwhelming at first - I'll be starting out in their Production Assistant apprenticeship program, and moving on from there. I have one contact through my friend who will hopefully give me some work, but after that I'm on my own with a call list provided to me by the guild.
Today - I am filling out paperwork, taking an online WHIMIS test, and lining up a future first aid course to be taken in the next week or so. I will try to update this as regularly as possible, hopefully it will help out anyone else that aspires to a career in a behind-the-scenes film role.
